AgileBits, the company behind the best password manager and form filler available on the Mac, has released 1Password 4.1, “the little big update” featuring the ability to update Login passwords right from the browser extension.

Although 1Password 4 has been out for a mere two months, AgileBits confesses that it just couldn’t wait to get an early holiday present into customers’ hands.

The first major update to 1Password 4, version 4.1 is now available for download from AgileBits’ site, and is pending approval from Apple for customers who update their 1Password installation through the Mac App Store.

“4.1 may look like a small update, but it packs some great big stuff, including something we’ve wanted for a long time: updating Login passwords right from the browser extension,” according to the company.

AgileBits explains the update in detail on its blog, revealing that the new save dialog now offers an option to create a new login or “Update existing Login.”

“If you have more than one Login for the site, you can choose which Login to update. Toss in the ability to tag and add this Login to a folder on-the-fly, and this is pretty much the greatest way to create new Logins and update them down the road when the need arises,” says the company.

Also new is a new “Top” Item List Layout, printing, a new search-by-title option, fixes to the Wi-Fi Sync component, and a ton of other improvements, some of which are listed below. For the full scoop, check out the release notes. Download 1Password 4.1 from Softpedia right now and give it a go.

Unencrypted attachment cache is now cleared when 1Password app is closed. Auto-save window will now update if 1Password is locked and the window was still shown. When 1Password detects a password change made on a website and prompts to update an existing Login it will now better match the existing item if there were multiple items with the same password for this website. All values copied to clipboard are now marked with org.nspasteboard.ConcealedType (http://nspasteboard.org). Added Twitter and Facebook links to Help menu. Added Troubleshooting Utility to Help menu. Improved Go & Fill when the default browser is set to Google Chrome or Firefox and the browser is not running. Duplicated generated passwords are now removed after saving or updating a login in the Save Login window. 1Password will now show the save alert if the main window is closed with unsaved changes while 'Lock when main window is closed' (Preferences > Security) is enabled.
