“From a completely redesigned interface, to support for file attachments, and the ability to view your keychain from almost any computer, 1Password 3 is our most significant upgrade in company history,” a message on the official Agile Web Solutions site reads. The company encourages users and newcomers alike to take a look at the new feature highlights and consider the new version of 1Password as an addition to their collection of programs.

One of the key features introduced with 1Password 3 is “1PasswordAnywhere.” Agile reveals that, with this new addition, users can decrypt and view their 1Password 3 database with a modern browser on any operating system. “Store your keychain on a thumb drive for portability or on web services like Dropbox and MobileMe,” Agile says. “View all of your items in the browser. Copy user names and passwords for pasting into other applications,” the examples go.

Software Licenses – Agile reveals that another key addition is 1Password’s ability to automatically find and import existing software licenses. These are kept in a section appropriately labeled “Software Licenses.” The function also makes 1Password automatically retrieve existing application icons, while users can manually add them, along with installers, plugins, etc. It even comes equipped with a tool for scanning one's entire system for icons, Agile reveals.

Next up – support for file attachments. “1Password 3 can handle file attachments,” the developers claim. “Users can attach file-based licenses to items in the new Software category and add images to Secure Notes. Every 1Password item type supports attachments. Files are copied into 1Password’s database and encrypted along with all other information,” the changelog reads.

Users can also edit items right from the web browser, this being another key, new feature of 1Password 3. Syncing with iPhone and iPod touch is just as easy, Agile suggests, with options like Selective Sync, which lets them pick specific folders to sync with their device, and the ability to view item folders in 1Password touch Pro for iPhone and iPod touch.

Last, but certainly not least, 1Password 3 is now a full 64-bit app, fully supported on Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard. The app is still supported on Leopard machines, while those using older versions can sync their Agile Keychain database from 1Password 2.x on a Tiger machine with 1Password 3.0 running on Leopard or Snow Leopard, according to Agile Web Solutions.
