On May 10, someone saw it fit to abandon 17 pups alongside a road in Indiana. Luckily for the pups, animal lover Karen Read spotted them and came to their rescue before anything bad happened to them.

Karen Read later told the police that, while driving on State Park Road, she noticed several fur balls sitting by the side of the road.

She also said that, while approaching the puppies, she saw an SUV that made a suspiciously quick getaway.

Both Karen and the police suspect that whoever was driving that SUV is the one who dumped the pups.

“It was very cold that night, so I fear to think what would have happened to them if I hadn't come along right when I did... Good grief. I was really angry that night, and I'm trying not to be a judgmental person...”

“I don't know what kind of situation they were in, but I think it was a pretty reckless and callous act that they did,” Karen reportedly commented on this incident.

The pups were abandoned together with their mother, sources say.

Karen and her husband managed to rescue all of the pooches, and the dogs were soon taken to a local animal shelter, Valparaiso's Lakeshore PAWS.

The pooches appear to be in good health and are currently waiting to be adopted.

Veterinarians say that the 17 puppies come from two different litters, and that their ages range from 6 to 12 weeks.

Needless to say, the police are now busy trying to identify the person who abandoned the pups without taking too much time to think about their wellbeing and safety.
