There's a new LEPAD product in town, one that people should take care not to confuse with the Lenovo LePad tablet. Called LEPAD V17 and made by Lepa, this is a thin notebook cooler for gamers.

Notebook coolers are never really necessary per se, but laptops tend to gather heat, especially when performing the act that acts as their namesake (ergo, sitting in one's lap).

This can range from slightly annoying to very uncomfortable. Burns are usually avoided, unless some fire hazard was missed in the factory, but discomfort usually demands a response of some sort.

Said response often comes in the form of a special cooling stand, like the one Lepa just formally launched, the LEPAD V17.

Its role is as straightforward as roles can come: a stand that will act as a buffer between your thighs and the hot base of whatever notebook you own.

In fact, it will even pick up the slack and actively cool it, making full use of that 140 mm fan in the middle.

It even has a blue LED, allowing it to glow in the dark. Although, if you actually have a notebook over it, the light will hardly propagate far.

Still, LED fans are the rave, and it's an unwritten rule of hardware that accessories, especially gaming ones, peripherals even more so, should have a LED light of some sort.

A USB port draws energy from the laptop, powering the fan and its light. Speaking of the fan, it has a speed range of 800 to 1,400 RPM (rotations per minute).

There's even a second USB port for mice, pen drives, or anything else with less than 100 mA power consumption.

All this for the price of €17.99 / $24. It's actually not that high a tag for something like this, and owners of 17-inch laptops are likely to have enough to spare, unless they choose some other model from another company. It's not like LEPAD 17 has any incredible perks setting it apart from them.
