The next-gen iPhone might not have a 16GB version

When Apple introduced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last year, we noticed a peculiarity: those wanting to purchase the 32GB models just couldn't anymore, as only the 16GB, 64GB or 128GB alternatives were offered for sale.

But a new report coming from Trendforce suggests that Apple might be looking to ax the 16GB iPhone model this year. Which makes sense given that 16GB won’t get you too far on an iPhone.

According to the information, Apple is apparently considering bringing the 32GB model back as the entry-level option and do away with the 16GB version for good. It sounds legit.

Apple is pushing for more default storage

The same report goes on to talk about the company’s upcoming iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models, saying that Apple is bound to bump up RAM capacity on the new flagships to 2GB of RAM. This information already leaked a while ago, so today we are given yet another confirmation that this is indeed the case.

So far, iPhone models have been relying on 1GB of RAM, and by contrast, Android flagships have raised the bar up to 4GB of RAM. Naturally, increasing RAM capacity is the natural thing to do for Apple.

Another feature that will make it into the new iPhones without a shadow of doubt is the new Force Touch technology. The Cupertino tech giant already uses it in its Apple Watch and new Retina MacBook, so the next-gen phones will probably get the same treatment too.

Furthermore, Apple is said to be reducing the size of the backlight LED package from 3.0 x 0.85 x 0.6 mm / 0.11 x 0.33 x 0.02 inches to 3.0 x 0.85 x 0.4 mm / 0.11 x 0.33 x 0.015 inches.

So we should expect the upcoming phones to be lighter and thinner. Brightness levels will also be diminished by up to 10%. In order to compensate, Apple will have to fit three additional LEDs into the backlight module.

Obviously, you should take all these tidbits with a grain of salt, but given the reports we have seen lately, we can be almost sure the new iPhones will arrive with Force Touch. As for the other rumors, it remains to be seen.
