16,000 searches per minute represent just an aspect of a much larger picture of the mosaic that is the UK search behavior. It is equivalent to 264 searches every second, 948,839 per hour,
and 22,772,137 per day. In fact Internet researcher indicates that a total of 706 million searches were carried out in August 2006.

"706 million searches were undertaken by UK searchers in August 2006 - 30 million more than were conducted in February 2006 (an increase of 4.4%). Over half a billion (546 million) results were clicked on (click-throughs) - an 18% increase on February 2006," revealed Nielsen//NetRatings via a press release.

Google is the undisputed leader of the UK search market with a share of click-throughs of 68% in August 2006, 2.8% more than in February 2006. The rest of the search pack is under 10%. Yahoo has 9.1%, Ask.com 7.8%, MSN/Windows Live 5.8%, and AOL just 4.1%. Out of the first five, only Google and Yahoo are on an ascendant trend, although Yahoo has grown just an insignificant 0.1% since February.
