U. S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein, of the District of Maryland has issued a press release announcing that a final sentence was passed in the
case of Robert M. Carey, 52 years old. Carey admitted the fact that he had produced, processed and downloaded child pornography for over 10 years in private and while he was employed at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. Carey pleaded guilty to all charges brought against him in May 19, 2006, following his apprehension after he was featured on "America's Most Wanted."
"Every photograph of child pornography is evidence of a crime," stated U.S. Attorney Rosenstein. "This case demonstrates both the scope and the severity of the harm caused by online child pornography. The defendant not only downloaded more than one million pictures of abused children, he also sexually abused a child and took his own pictures. I am grateful to 'America's Most Wanted' for helping to bring so many fugitives to justice and protect other people from becoming victims."
Carey was sentenced to 15 years of prison and an additional three years of supervised release. The man will also pay $50,000 in financial restitution to the family of one of his victims. The case also revealed that Carey had sexually abused a 13 year old girl related to him. Pictures involving the two in explicit sexual acts were discovered during the investigation.
