14 DAY TRIAL // The term panel PC is an odd one, rarely encountered in the press, as few companies actually advertise products as such. Axiomtek didn't see anything wrong with standing out though, so it released the GOT3157W-832-PCT.
In truth, the GOT3157W-832-PCT can easily qualify as an all-in-one computer, seeing how it has a full hardware configuration.
Only the fact that, for all intents and purposes, it is shaped like a display with more hardware than what normally qualifies it as a panel PC.
In any case, the newcomer has a 15.6-inch WXGA TFT widescreen liquid crystal display (1280 x 768 pixels).
Truthfully, if there weren't for that section of that stuck out at the back, the GOT3157W-832-PCT would qualify as a tablet. It looks just like one from the front, and even has a projected capacitive multi-touch screen.
The so-called "heart" of the system is an Intel Atom Cedarview processor D2550 (dual-core) at 1.86 GHz, supported by the Intel NM10 Express chipset.
A 2.5-inch SATA HDD drive bay is present as well, along with WLAN, IP65-rated water/dust-proof front bezel, a pair of COM ports, four USB 2.0 connectors, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and design compatibility with panel mount and optional wall mount/VESA arm/desktop stand.
The DDR3-800 maximum random access memory capacity is of 4 GB (one slot).
"We develop a modulized design for the GOT3157W-832-PCT. It is the must for kiosk application, and not only save cost and time but also increases the possibility of additional function extension," said Virgil Hsu, product manager of product marketing division at Axiomtek.
"Moreover, the projected capacitive multi-touch screen enables more accurate & flexible operation and further advances multi-touch user experience."
Axiomtek's panel PC has a PCI mini card slot, one CompactFlashTM slot (optional) and audio (Line-out), plus resistance to -10°C ~ +50°C temperatures. No price is known, however.
