Microsoft is now sending out invites for a hardware event on October 6, and while everyone expects the company to present the new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, there’s also something that might come as a big surprise for many of us.

Redmond is reportedly getting ready to introduce a brand new Surface model that will come not in one, but in two different sizes, which should help the company better tackle the growing demand for 2-in-1 devices.

First and foremost, there will be the Surface Pro 4, direct successor to the Surface Pro 3 and coming with a 12-inch screen. Microsoft has remained completely tight-lipped until now, but we do know that it will be based on a fanless design, so it’ll be as thin as its predecessor, but will continue to offer very powerful hardware, such as Intel’s own Skylake line of processors.

A digital pen will continue to be offered and so will be keyboards that help the device convert from a tablet into laptop in a second. The premium price will obviously be maintained.

But at the same time, word has it that Microsoft also plans to introduce a bigger Surface tablet, whose name is yet to be disclosed, but it is very likely to have a different moniker in order to clearly set itself apart from the rest of the models.

The bigger Surface is likely to come with a 14-inch display, and as compared to the other models, it will include a fan, which is a sign that Redmond could go for even more powerful hardware that needs cooling.

Details are scarce this time, but with such a model, Microsoft would get even closer to the laptop market, and just like before, the focus would remain on productivity. An improved keyboard, a digital pen, and new hardware that would support Windows Hello are also likely to be offered.

Full specifications will be provided at the October 6 event, but expect new information to reach the web via unofficial channels in the meantime.
