They can store 20,000 high-resolution images or 20 hours of HD videos

There used to be a time when 128 GB was a lot of storage for a solid-state drives, but now it seems to be the new high-end for something much smaller, specifically USB flash drive units. Silicon Power has released both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 models.

Some may question the wisdom of actually installing 128 GB on a USB 2.0 flash drive. After all, the interface can't go faster than 480 Mbps.

Consequently, this means that it will take days upon days to actually fill the storage device up to the brim.

Put like that, it sounds a bit overkill. However, one need remember that this isn't a backup drive. People aren't likely to copy more than one or two files at a time.

Well, unless they plan to move their entire music collection onto them, in which case they might want to bring out the popcorn, or go on a road trip while it happens.

Or they could just buy the USB 3.0 models. With a tenfold increase in transfer speed (more or less), the toil will last a lot less.

In case you want to know exactly how much data you can hold on one of the drives, in layman terms, here are the estimates: 20 hours of high-definition videos, over 3,000 songs, or 20,000 18-megapixel images.

That said, perhaps we should say that there aren't just a few 128 GB Silicon power flash drives up for order now, or coming soon.

In fact, the company has added such a drive to many of its series, like Marvel M01, Marvel M50, Ultima U03, Helios 101, the I-Series, Blaze B10, Blaze B20, Blaze B30, Blaze B05, and Blaze B06, and the LuxMini 720.

All the storage devices have lifetime warranties and ship with the SP Widget application software, which includes seven big backup and security tools, plus a 60-day trial version of Norton Internet Security, or NIS for short.

The Recuva File Recovery application is available as well, allowing users to retrieve deleted files like documents, music, videos and digital photos.

Silicon Power should have the 128 GB flash drives up for sale soon, and if you still think that capacity is too high, then never fear! The company has unveiled some new 64 GB units as well, for the Touch T01, Touch T02, Touch T01 Mobile, LuxMini 710 and Unique 510 collections.

Many new products indeed, but this is the CeBIT 2014 month. True, the launch was made in Taipei, Taiwan, not Hannover, Germany, but the timing couldn't be a simple coincidence.
