14 DAY TRIAL // “123456” has been named the worst password of 2013. This isn’t surprising, considering that most of the users impacted in the Adobe breach had used the sequence of digits as their password.
According to SplashData’s latest study, last year’s winner, “password,” has dropped to the second position. The list of the top 10 most common passwords found on the Web is completed by “1234567,” “qwerty,” “abc123,” “123456789,” “111111,” “1234567,” “iloveyou” and “adobe123.”
My personal favorite, “letmein,” has dropped seven positions to the 14th spot. The list has obviously been influenced by the Adobe breach since even “photoshop” has made it to the list of the top 25 worst passwords.
Despite the fact that many websites have started enforcing stronger password policies, some of the new additions to this year’s list are actually short numerical passwords, such as “1234” or “12345.”
