In case you believe that you’re pretty good at using Microsoft Office and you know every little thing about Redmond’s productivity suite, you’re not in the right place right now. Your next destination should actually be Anaheim, California, at the 2014 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship.

No less than 400,000 contestants from all over the world have competed for the Microsoft Office World Champion title this year, but only 123 people have made it to the finals, which are taking place today.

Teens between 13 and 22 years old are fighting for prizes of $5,000 (€3,750) in several categories, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

Education Week writes that a total of six US contestants are fighting in the finals for the big prize, as Americans rarely get the chance to win the leading spot.

“Only one U.S. participant has ever claimed a first prize in the Microsoft Office competition, which has historically been dominated by contestants from Asian nations,” the source writes.

In case you’re wondering, the event encourages participants to show their skills in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and comprises both an exam and a challenge that requires them to recreate a document in the program they choose.

Surprisingly, the competition is not sponsored by Microsoft, but by Certiport, an American Fork, Utah-based company that offers certifications for the Redmond-based tech giant.
