Kali Hardig, a 12-year-old girl from Arkansas who had to be put in a medically induced coma after she contracted parasitic meningitis, is now well enough to return home to her family.

Towards the end of August, the girl showed notable signs of feeling better. Thus, she woke up from the coma, and started speaking again. At that time, she could only utter a few simple words.

Live Science tells us that, although she is now feeling much better, the girl will have to be in therapy for some time. Long story short, she must re-learn how to do the simplest of things, such as talk, walk and eat.

The same source tells us that, despite the fact that she will return to school, the girl will only attend classes part-time. In the afternoon, she is to focus on her rehabilitation.

Apparently, Kali Hardig is only the third person in the world known to have survived parasitic meningitis caused by brain-eating amoeba Naegleria fowleri.
