It's a very easy job
criticizing video games. With all these violent and sex-themed titles out there, it's actually hard not to criticize them, but sometimes, video games deserve credit for the
benefits they bring as well. Leave aside
hand-eye coordination and reflex improving aspects, we're here to talk about real life lessons found within games, which 12 year old
Hans Jørgen Olsen put into practice to save his sister and himself from a
beast in the woods.
According to Internode Games Network, "Hans Jørgen Olsen and his sister were walking in the woods near their house when they were confronted by the antlered beast, who was a bit miffed at the invasion of his turf, so it attacked them." What do you think Olsen did? He immediately made some connections and did what he would have done in
World of Warcraft: taunted the beast!
According to the same source "The boy yelled at the animal until it was distracted enough to leave his sister alone, so she could run and get help. Downside of this plan - the moose was now paying some grumpy attention to Hans. What was he to do?"
What else could he do than pull another intelligent move, also learned while walking the hills of Azeroth: Olsen feigned death! "Just like you learn at level 30 in World of Warcraft." Take that Jack Thompson and all you anti-video game crusaders out there!
Of course, it is fairly possible that the story was faked by the protagonists themselves. After all, they're just 12 years old, about the age when lying to get a bit of attention occurs on a daily basis. Still, since I myself have learned a thing or two from the wonderful puzzles I've solved within games like
Metroid, Tomb Raider and God of War, I can't say it's not plausible. And so, if this story is true, congrats Olsen, you'll make a fine superhero one day!
