Rumored to be delayed because of manufacturing hurdles

Apple is still planning to announce the rumored 12-inch MacBook Air with Retina display tomorrow at its Town Hall event in Cupertino, California, according to sources in Taiwan, where most of Apple’s devices are manufactured.

Sources in the Taiwan-based supply chain reportedly said that “Shipments of a new MacBook Air model, reportedly equipped with a 12-inch Retina screen, have begun in small volumes and large-volume shipments will begin in November.”

This, according to the not-so-reliable DigiTimes, which only sometimes gets its facts 100% right. The sources cited in the report added, “Apple is set to host a event on October 16 where it is expected to unveil new iPads and the new 12-inch MacBook Air.” The 12-inch Air is only a rumor, and there has been talk of a delay recently because of its super-slim design.

According to other sources in the supply chain, manufacturers have complained to Apple that the computer is very hard to build, causing very poor yield rates. This was interpreted by the media as a direct sign that the new MacBook Air would be delayed, and thus would not be unveiled at tomorrow's widely anticipated event. It remains to be seen whether or not that’s the case with the new notebook.
