Following Carnival Cruises' multiple issues with their ships this month and its Carnival Triumph fiasco in February, the company has decided to perform maintenance on the ships.

The Carnival Sunshine and the Triumph will not be in use for a few weeks, USA Today notes. The Sunshine, with a capacity of 3,006, will undergo remodeling until May 5, and two trips scheduled for this period have been canceled.

As I told you at the time, the Triumph broke down after a fire in the engine room in the Gulf of Mexico on February 10, leaving 4,200 passengers with no power or sewage for days.

The ship's fire safety systems and its backup generator are to undergo maintenance and improvements until it's scheduled to run again, on June 3.

Passengers on 10 Triumph voyages, as well as travelers set to sail on the Sunshine are getting their money back and a 25% discount on the next ticket they are buying for a Carnival cruise.

"The cruise line is making significant investments to enhance the level of operating redundancies and the scope of hotel services that can run on emergency power, and further improve each ship's fire prevention, detection and suppression systems,” cruise line reps say in a statement.
