14 DAY TRIAL // Apple didn't even come out with a larger iPhone and the stories about a rumored larger iPad have been reignited. Bloomberg is the last to join the choir with their latest report.
According to sources coming from Apple supply chain, Bloomberg believes that the Cupertino tech giant is actually ready to go into production as early as the first quarter of 2015.
The new iPad will be considerably larger than the iPad air, with a diagonal of 12.9 inches. Apple has two iPad sizes on the market: the original 9.7-inch one which is now the iPad Air and the 7.9 model – the retina iPad mini.
Bloomberg says that Apple has been in touch with suppliers for at least a year to develop this next-generation larger iPad. As expected, an Apple PR person refused to comment on this.
The iPad had a rough last quarter with the sales declining, even though, the tablet is still the second best after the iPhone and way stronger than competing products. The trend is somewhat expected, because the Cupertino, California-based tech giant is about to release their new iPad Air 2 and a new version of the retina iPad mini.
The new iOS devices will sport a more powerful chip and the long-awaited Touch ID Home button, complete with fingerprint reader and security features.
Re/Code's Walt Mossberg interviewed Apple's CEO this week and published his notes today. Tim Cook says he "couldn't be happier with how we've done with the first four years of the iPad. I'd call what's going on recently a speed bump, and I've seen that in every category."
