During May, Opera Mini, the most popular browser in the world, enjoyed a number of no less than 113.5 million users, the latest report from Opera shows.

These people accessed a number of 63.3 billion pages through the mobile browser, with impressive growth registered in a series of markets around the world, such as Latin America.

The data was delivered in the monthly State of the Mobile Web report, which was focused on the growth of mobile web usage in India in May.

According to Opera, India was placed on the third position on the list of countries with the most Opera Mini users.

Moreover, the company notes that many people in India use the mobile web for shopping and online classified, at least this is what data from AdMarvel, an Opera Software subsidiary, shows.

“We see India standing tall as a country in rapid development, with Internet-based knowledge at the forefront of that growth,” said Jon von Tetzchner, co-founder of Opera Software.

“Furthermore, the mobile Web in India has evolved as an important place to do business, as the proportion of people going shopping on the mobile shows.”

During the past year alone, the number of page views on Opera Mini in India grew from 390 to 430 per user, Opera notes.

Vuclip (mobile-optimized video) and Mobile2Day (a mobile portal) are now included in the top 10 most popular sites among mobile users in the country.

Some other findings of the new report from Opera include:

- From May 2010 to May 2011, page views in the top 10 Latin American countries increased by 1556%, unique users increased by 535% and data transferred increased by 1041%.
- Among Latin American countries, the most popular sites include Google, Facebook, YouTube, Live, and Wikipedia. Orkut is popular in Brazil, specifically.
- While Orkut is declining in India, and Facebook taking over, it remains strong in Brazil.
