Windows 8 is currently installed on 7.41 percent of computers worldwide, according to the latest figures provided by market researcher Net Applications, which is enough to become the third top OS in the world.

While such a figure might not seem so impressive given the fact that Windows 8 was released in October 2012, it actually means that more than 110 million users are running it right now.

Paul Thurrott of WinSuperSite claims that the number of active PC users last month reached 1.5 billion, so Windows 8 not only that posted the biggest growth since launch, but it also significantly increased its user base.

At the same time, Windows XP lost nearly 4 percent of its users, dropping to a 33.66 percent market share, while Windows 7 remained the top choice with 45.63 percent.
