Netflix has revealed the extent of the damage from its price hike, announced last summer but which came into effect last month, it lost 800,000 subscribers in Q3 2011, after gaining 1.8 million in the previous quarter.
It ended up with 23.8 million subscribers in the US at the end of the quarter, down from 24.6 million in Q2. Of those, 21.5 million have a streaming subscription and 13.4 million pay for DVD rental.
This means that only 2.3 million people only want DVDs, 10.4 million only want streaming leaving 11.1 million who want both.
11.1 million are now paying 60 percent more per month. 12.7 million are paying 20 percent less. 800,000 people have canceled their subscriptions, a 100 percent drop.
What's more, there are now 10.4 million less people to worry about when stocking up on DVDs. Overall, the move should be labeled as a success for Netflix.
