You remember Boulder Dash right. You must remember it if you've owned a GameBoy and it's still in your heart I presume. Oh well, even though your GameBoy got broken and you dropped your Boulder Dash cartridge down the sewer when you were waiting for the buss, there is still a chance for you to enjoy the classic title, this time on your DS, or PSP. Of course, 10Tacle Studios and 10Tacle Studios Mobile, along with co-publisher First Star Software are improving the game as we speak, so, expect a radical revamping of the GameBoy classic.

The companies mentioned above have recently released the first screenshots of Boulder Dash-ROCKS! for the Nintendo DS and Sony's PSP. The sequel to the cult classic is getting a complete graphic makeover, says the official report, just like the game's hero Rockford, but at the same time is relying on the tried and tested game principle in the classic game mode. The level design emerged in cooperation with the British development studio Tuna Technologies. The company is especially delighted to be working on Boulder Dash, which has quite a profile in computer and video game history.

"To have the opportunity to work with one of the games responsible for so many of us entering the game industry is a great honour," said Alex Amsel, Managing Director of Tuna Technologies. "We are really excited to be partnering with 10TACLE STUDIOS and First Star Software, and to co-develop what we feel will be a great addition to the Boulder Dash series".

The game's main objective and game physics remain unchanged, as the player has to collect a certain number of diamonds while avoiding falling objects, traps and foes in order to find the exit, before time runs out. There are a number of helpful tools which players have to use to successfully complete a level. Some of those tools include bombs or laser guns which can be loaded with different types of ammunition. These lasers provide the player with different temporary powers, such as the ability to freeze enemies, destroy boulders and even pull diamonds and other distant objects towards the player.

But what couldn't the GameBoy version of Boulder Dash possibly offer? That's right, multiplayer. But in addition to the multiplayer mode, Boulder Dash-ROCKS! also offers three additional game modes for a total of five play modes for each version. There are two new game modes, never before available in the Boulder Dash series, one of which has been custom designed for each of the two different platforms.

That's just about everything they let us know so far, but keep in mind that Boulder Dash-ROCKS! is scheduled for release on the Nintendo DS in November 2007 and PSP in the first quarter of 2008. See 10tacle's official website for more information.
