1080° Avalanche Unlockables, Hints and Glitches (GameCube)

Sometime in 1999, it was confirmed that a sequel to 1080° Snowboarding was coming to the Nintendo 64. Rather than Nintendo handling development of the game, they passed development on to second-party studio Left Field. When the game failed to materialise, it was confirmed that the game was no longer being produced for the N64, but for the Nintendo GameCube.

Not long after this announcement, it was also confirmed that Left Field was revoking its status as a second-party studio so it could develop multi-format titles. Development of the game was handed to Nintendo's American development studio, Nintendo Software Technology Corporation (NST). They originally planned to call this game 1080°: White Storm, before finally renaming this game 1080°: Avalanche. It is assumed that the game was completely rewritten by NST, but it's possible that some elements of Left Field's work remains.

Novice Avalanche challenge:
Enter JAS3IKRR as a code. A message will confirm correct code entry.

Hard Avalanche challenge:

Get eighteen trophies in gate challenge mode to unlock the NST 1080-A board. Press Z at the board selection screen to select it.

Old School board:
Get five trophies in gate challenge mode to unlock the Old School board. Press Z at the board selection screen to select it.

Powder Painter board:
Get nine trophies in gate challenge mode to unlock the Powder Painter board. Press Z at the board selection screen to select it.

Alternate board designs:
Get 18 time trial coins to unlock alternate board designs for all the characters. Press L at the board selection screen to select them.

Alternate costumes:
Successfully complete expert mode to unlock alternate costumes for the corresponding character. Press R at the character select screen to select them.

After completing expert mode on match race you get new a costume for that person and also unlock extreme mode.

Hidden models:
Successfully complete extreme mode to unlock hidden models for the corresponding character. Press Z at the character selection screen to select them.

Ghost character:
Press C-stick Down once or twice during game play and your player will turn translucent.

Hints

Easy Expert and Extreme races:
Unlock the Rocket board by getting trophies on the Gate challenge, then use it. Note: This also makes outrunning the avalanche very easy. Just be careful of the board's low balance.

Glitches

Backflips:
When you start the level Stick With It Advance hold L + Y then hold Away until he does two back flips. Note: This will not work with the rocket board.
