An Indonesian hacker that goes by the name Direxer, part of the Code Security forum, breached the security of more than 100 websites belonging to the government of Kenya, defacing them to prove their lack of protection.

According to Daily Nation, the list of victim sites includes the ones of the ministries of Education, Finance, National Heritage and Roads, Administration Police, Immigration, Public Health and Youth Affairs.

“We are making every effort within our resources to restore the websites and protect them from future attacks,” E-Government Directorate secretary Katherine Getao said.

Officials added that the attack was “low level” and they didn’t have to call in the country’s Cyber Incidence Response Team.

At the time of writing most of the sites are still down while their administrators try to establish how the hacker managed to breach them.
