They say that it's the small things in life that count. Apparently, folks in Illinois, US, don't think so. Not when it comes to bratwursts, that is.

Long story short, it was earlier this week, on Tuesday, that folks at a bar in this state cooked and served a wiener measuring an impressive 100 feet (about 30.5 meters) in length.

Even more interesting, word has it that this impressive grilling session was just a trial run. Thus, the same people plan to soon cook a considerably longer bratwurst.

The “who,” the “where,” and the “how”

Media reports say that the ginormous bratwurst was cooked by staff at the Silver Creek Saloon, a bar in the city of Belleville in Illinois. These meat lovers got help from about 50 volunteers, who one can only assume are also quite fond of wieners.

In order to cook the 100-foot-long bratwurst, Silver Creek Saloon employees and the volunteers who jumped to their help started by piecing together an equally long metal trough which they topped with grills.

They then put the wiener on this custom-made cooker, and patiently waited for it to get all nice and crispy on the outside and deliciously juicy on the inside. While waiting for the wiener to cook, they kept shoveling coal onto the trough.

Consumerist tells us that, looking to make sure that the wiener would not break, the volunteers and the Silver Creek Saloon staff had somebody coordinate them with the help of a megaphone when the time came for them to flip it over.

By the looks of it, the bratwursts experienced some splits, but when all was said and done, it was intact and good to eat. “They did good; they did real good,” a local said in an interview. “There were no erratic movements,” he added.

An even bigger bratwurst this way comes

As already mentioned, the grilling of this intimidatingly big wiener this past Tuesday was no more and no less than a trial turn. Thus, come September 21, the town plans to cook an even bigger one. One that measures a whopping 200 feet (61 meters) in length, to be more precise.

By the looks of it, this bratwurst will be grilled and served as a means to celebrate the city's 200th anniversary. Seeing how the wiener cooked earlier this week tipped the scale at 60 pounds (a little over 27 kilograms), it is to be expected that the one that will get eaten later this month will too pack quite a lot of meat.
