Service Pack 1 RTM is only one of the enhancements that Microsoft will be providing to developers leveraging Visual Studio 2010 starting today, March 8th, 2010.

According to S. Somasegar, Senior Vice President, Developer Division, devs which are also MSDN subscribers will be able to sign into their accounts later today and download Visual Studio 2010 SP1 RTM.

Following the release of the first upgrade to VS2010, devs will also get a new development milestone for Visual Studio LightSwitch.

Somasegar reveals that the software giant will release the second Beta build of Visual Studio LightSwitch in the next few weeks, although an exact availability deadline was not provided.

It does appear that Visual Studio LightSwitch has been enjoying a fair amount of success since it was initially introduced, and it only makes perfect sense for the software giant to push the solution forward.

“Visual Studio LightSwitch offers a simple way to develop line of business applications for the desktop and cloud. Since the launch of Visual Studio LightSwitch Beta 1, we have seen over 100,000 downloads of the tool and a lot of developer excitement,” Somasegar stated.

“In the coming weeks, we will make available Visual Studio LightSwitch Beta 2. With this second beta, we will also enable you to build line of business applications that target Windows Azure and SQL Azure.”

Some Softpedia readers might still remember that Microsoft first mentioned Visual Studio LightSwitch in early August 2010, when the company shared details about a new addition to the Visual Studio family designed to simplify the application development process for business customers.

Visual Studio LightSwitch Beta 1 was made available for download later that same month, offering devs a taste of Microsoft’s vision to streamline the building of business applications for the desktop and the Cloud.
