Today, September 8, 2016, Raspberry Pi Founder Eben Upton has been extremely proud to announce that a total of ten million Raspberry Pi single-board computers have been sold to date.

Let us say that again because it sounds so cool: over 10 million Raspberry Pi units have been sold until now. Congrats to the Raspberry Pi Foundation for changing our lives and giving us the world's first smallest, low-cost SBC (Single-board computer) to build our most innovative projects.

You know, Raspberry Pi is behind some major experiments. It's used in space, on the International Space Station, by NASA's astronauts as part of the Astro Pi project, as well as in many of our home appliances, including the soon-to-be-released, Ubuntu Snappy-based Mycroft, promising A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) to everyone, and many others.

"You can imagine how strange it feels to be able to announce that over the last four and a half years we’ve sold a grand total of ten million Raspberry Pis. Thanks to you, we’ve beaten our wildest dreams by three orders of magnitude, and we’re only just getting started," says Eben Upton in today's announcement.

Raspberry Pi Starter Kit now available for pre-order

To celebrate the ten millionth Raspberry Pi device sold, the Raspberry Pi Foundation is happy to announce today the upcoming availability of Raspberry Pi Starter Kit, which is just that, a starter kit to help you build your new project, no matter if it's a simple desktop computer, a server, or anything else you can imagine.

If you're wondering what exactly is inside the Raspberry Pi Starter Kit box, we can tell you now that it contains a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (the latest version available), an 8GB NOOBS SD card, an official case, an official 2.5A multi-region power supply, an official 1m HDMI cable, an optical mouse, and a keyboard with high-quality scissor-switch action.

But wait, that's not all, as there's also a copy of the "Adventures in Raspberry Pi Foundation Edition" magazine, so you can see what others have built with a Raspberry Pi SBC. In any case, Raspberry Pi Starter Kit is now available for pre-order for the sum of £99+VAT ($130+VAT) from element14 and RS Components, and will be unleashed worldwide in the coming weeks.
