German optics manufacturer, Leica is well known for their high-quality f/2 Summicron and f/1.4 Summilux lenses as well as their line of T1.4 Summilux-C cinema lenses.

According to FDTimes, the German company recently unveiled their new cinema lens line, the T2.0 Summicron-C. The new cinema lenses are designed and manufactured by CW Sonderoptic, the same company that makes the T1.4 Summilux-C lens series.

For the moment, the new Summicron-C lens line consists of only six fixed focal length lenses including: 18, 25, 35, 50, 75 and 100 mm with four more lenses (21, 29, 40, and 135 mm) to be released soon.

The Summicron-C lenses are 30% shorter and 20% lighter as well as one T-stop slower than their Summilux-C counterparts, which makes them easier to manufacture and more affordable to filmmakers.

In addition to that, the new lenses come with the same PL mount as the Summilux-C models and feature the same focus and iris barrel gear lineup as the later, allowing you to change lenses without having to reposition focus and lens motors.

Thanks to their PL mount, the new Summicron-C lenses are compatible with Sony's F5 and F55, Canon's C300 and C500 as well as Epic Dragon cinema cameras. Despite their simpler design, the Summicron-C units still pack impressive quality and performance compared with their pricier siblings.

Hand-crafted in Wetzlar and comprising 12 different focal lengths lenses, the Summilux-C series comes with cam focus, rear net holders, uniform focus scales and threaded fonts, which makes them a high-end choice for enthusiast filmmakers.

Each of the first 6 Leica Summicron-C lenses is available now at a price of $16,250 / €11,800, but they can also be bought as a set for $97,500 / €72,200.

In contrast with that, the Leica Summilux-C lenses are priced at $24,750 / €18,000 each, with the 8 lenses “starter” kit available for $198,000 / €144,000.
