A few days back, a 10-month-old pup barely escaped with his life after being tied to some train tracks in Mecca, California by a 78-year-old man and simply left there.

Luckily for the pooch, the engineer in charge of driving the Union Pacific train did not delay in using the emergency braking system in order to stop the train.

Since the engineer also managed to catch a glimpse of the 78-year-old man as he was walking away from the train tracks, the latter was eventually arrested and made to explain his deed, sources say.

By the looks of it, the man decided to get rid of the dog in this manner because his family was no longer interested in keeping it as a pet.

Still, because the man appeared to be both confused and unable to comprehend the severity of his actions, no animal cruelty charges have been filed.

The pooch, now named Banjo, finds itself in perfectly good health and cannot wait to be adopted by a new and loving family.
