And counting, according to Chronic Dev hacker Joshua Hill

In order to create an ‘untethered’ jailbreak for iOS 5 users, the Chronic Dev Team is working to parse data from over 10 million crash reports (sent so far) thanks to a tool designed specifically to empower end users to help out with the development.

Released at the end of November to allow iOS customers to submit crash reports containing valuable data for developing the next untethered jailbreak, CdevReporter is a tool that ‘neuters’ your copy of iTunes to route the crash logs to the Chronic Dev’s servers.

The tool also prevents the same crash reports from ever reaching Apple, which makes it harder for the Cupertino tech giant to keep an eye out for exploitable holes.

“The program copies all the crash reports off your device (which, under normal circumstances, would be sent right back to Apple), and instead sends this data to a secure, private server hosted by your friendly Chronic Dev team,” Chronic Dev said last month.

According to the team of hackers, “Using this agglomeration of your crash reports and our ninja skills, Chronic Dev will be able to quickly pinpoint vulnerabilities in various programs by using the same techniques Apple currently employs.”

A series of tweets fired by Chronic Dev’s Joshua Hill, known as p0sixninja among jailbreaker circles, reveals that CdevReporter has racked up over 10 million crash reports from iOS users eager to see an untethered jailbreak via GreenPois0n, the team’s infamous hack tool.

“Wow, already so many crashreports!! Keep them coming guys. You don't need to be jailbroken to do it […]We've gotten about 10,071,868 reports so far,” p0sixninja wrote.

Other Twitter entries signed p0sixninja also reveal that parsing is coming along nicely.

Apparently they’re using a technology that “should allow [them] to run tests that would take days normally in only seconds.” The technology in question is also used by Google, according to the hacker.
