Avoid food intoxications

1. Drink a lot of water and if you doubt the quality of the tap water, buy bottled water. Babies, children and elders must drink a lot of liquids, as dehydrations are sometimes sudden and devastating.

2. Always keep lemons and bicarbonate in the house. When facing the minimal symptoms of gastroenteritis, boil some water and air it out (by passing 10 times from a recipe to another), and put in it the juice of two lemons, a pinch of salt and a pinch of bicarbonate.

3. Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. Wash properly the vegetables and add a drop of vinegar in the cold water, putting the fruit on it for five minutes. Do not eat melon and watermelon during the night.

4. The fish must be extremely fresh and be consumed during the same day; if not, it must be frozen once you reach home.

5. Minced meat must be consumed, or at least cooked, during the same day it was bought. The visceras should be bought from a place guaranteeing its sanitary qualities.

6. The eggs should be very fresh. Test them in a water recipe: if one lies on the bottom, it is perfect; if it raises a little, it is neither good nor bad, and if it floats, get rid of it. Wash properly the eggs before the usage and break the shell out of the recipe where you'll beat them.

7. During the summer there are many street markets selling fruit, vegetables, cheese, sausages and oils. Check the sanitary conditions, the labels and the expiration date.

8. The manipulation of the food in your house causes 50 % of the food intoxications. Avoid by any means the flies on any aliment, because, besides being annoying, they carry many diseases.

9. The heat and the holidays can make you forget about the food. Choose the coolest moments of the day for cooking and use the freezing.

10. Keep in the fridge jugs with water mixed with lemon and sugar, shake of milk and cacao, light tea with pieces of lemon and orange, drinks recommended for everybody, no matter the age.
