Sometimes, what goes on behind the camera also deserves a mention

Because Halloween is almost here and you know you’re going to squeeze in a classic movie as well, here are a few awesome facts about some of the most popular horror flicks, which are perfect this time of the year.

The list comes from BuzzFeed and, while I can’t vouch for how accurate or certain it is, it definitely puts some things into perspective.

1. “Psycho” was the first movie to show a toilet flushing. Totally useless but yes, interesting as well.

2. The Mike Myers mask in the first “Halloween” movie was actually a mask of William Shatner from the “Star Trek” series. The film had such a small budget that they simply used whatever they could find in the nearest store, after they painted it white.

3. Both Robert de Niro and Robin Williams were first considered for leading the part in “The Shining,” but director Stanley Kubrik thought the former was not “psychotic enough,” whereas the latter was “too psychotic.” It finally went to Jack Nicholson.

4. “Halloween” was initially supposed to be called “The Babysitter Murders,” because producers wanted all the action to take place in one night, also on financial considerations.

5. “Scream” was initially supposed to be called “Scary Movie.” This was the name of the spoof made after it, with its fifth installment scheduled for release in January 2013, featuring a special cameo from Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan.

6. “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” was supposed to be called “Head Cheese.” Clearly, not even half as scary as the final title.

7. The vomit in “The Exorcist” was actually pea soup, Andersen’s Pea Soup. Producers had also tried Campbell soup but were not pleased with the results.

8. “Final Destination” is based on a rejected “X Files” episode. Too bad they didn’t stop with the sequels when they should have.

9. Jack Nicholson was considered for the role of the Hannibal Lecter in “Silence of the Lambs.” It went to Anthony Hopkins instead.

10. The robe of the killer in “Scream” was initially supposed to be white. Producers made it black after they realized people might find some unwanted KKK connection in it.
