It appears that, following the publication of several studies that link smoking to various health conditions, quite a lot of people are eager to kick this habit.

More precisely, a report recently issued by the British Heart Foundation says that roughly 82% of the people who currently smoke would be overjoyed should they succeed in letting go of the need to light up a cigarette every once in a while.

Furthermore, it appears that 1 in 10 smokers is not just willing, but “desperate” to put their smoking days behind them, Daily Mail reports.

The same report says that, by the looks of it, those wishing to quit have to be prepared to go through about 4 failed attempts before actually succeeding.

Unless they are no ordinary Joes and Janes, in which case over 20 failed attempts might be required.

“We need investment in local stop smoking services and measures such as standardised packaging to help protect our children from the fatal addiction so many people are currently battling with,” argued Dr. Mike Knapton, associate medical director for the British Heart Foundation.
