Notebook vendor 1 Beyond has announced a new line of rugged, high-performance notebooks to be unveiled during the NAB 2008 Show in Las Vegas. During the event, the manufacturer will introduce world's first notebook
powered by an Intel quad-core chip in the desktop version, able to support RAID5 technology, as well as two military-grade ultra-rugged units.

The first notebook to be showcased is aimed at the high-definition graphics and video specialists. The GoFlex317 comes with a desktop version of Intel's quad-core processors, as well as with RAID5 hardware controller. Since RAID 5 requires the presence of three hard-disk drives on a single system, the technology is less implemented in the notebook system, although it is popular in the server and workstation environments.

The system is already available in multiple configurations, including Intel's Core 2 Quad processors working at frequencies of up to 2.66GHz, as well as Nvidia's GeForce 8800M GTX PCI-Express video card with 512MB. The notebook also packs 960 GB of storage space on three RAID-ed hard-disk drives.

The notebook vendor will also introduce a full line of rugged notebooks, comprised of its RL 5215 and RL 4212 models. The RL series is touted as being designed to offer reliable performance for demanding in-field military environments as well as for professional road-warriors. Both notebooks are certified to comply with the MIL-STD 810F standards from the Department of Defense.

The rugged mobile computers are packed in a magnesium alloy case that can handle high-altitude drops, as it is almost 20 times stronger than average plastic compounds used in notebook cases. The rugged line of notebooks come with Intel's Core Duo 2.4 GHz processors and support up to 4 GB of system RAM.

The 15.4-inch notebooks also feature a full size keyboard, wireless Ethernet, DVD player, pre-installed software including Windows XP professional and the option to add Adobe Creative Suite 3, Grass Valley Edius, or Avid Media Composer.
