The World Wildlife Fund has recently announced that, last week, rhino horns estimated to be worth about $1.5 million (€1.1 million) were found in the luggage of a man trying to get through customs at Changi Airport in Singapore.

As was to be expected, the rhino horns were immediately confiscated by authorities.

Information shared with the public says that the man in whose luggage the animal body parts were found was trying to smuggle a total of eight rhino horns.

Apparently, he was trying to transport the horns, whose combined weight amounts to 22 kilograms (about 48.5 kilograms), to Vietnam.

Both the World Wildlife Fund and green group TRAFFIC have documented an increase in the demand for this material in this part of the world.

The organizations both wish to congratulate authorities in Singapore for finding and seizing the rhino horns, and are glad that efforts are made to end the illegal trade in animal body parts.

“The vigilance shown by Singapore’s customs officials is extremely encouraging as WWF and TRAFFIC continue their global missions to stop poaching, increase rhino populations, improve law enforcement, and tackle the illegal trade of endangered species,” said conservationist Elaine Tan.
