Damages awards in copyright cases are getting more ridiculous. Already, the few people that did put up a fight in lawsuits like these are millions of dollars in debt.

Their number is growing, one man from Hampton, Virginia has to pay $1.5 million, €1.16 million to adult entertainment company Flava Works.

His crime was to share 10 movies that he bought digitally from the company, on BitTorrent. The, let's just say "male bonding," movies were downloaded a total of 3,449 times.

At the very least, he's the actual source of the pirated material, so a harsher penalty may be warranted. But $1.5 million for 10 movies and less than 3,500 downloads seems more than a bit exaggerated.

The fact that the man didn't even show up to defend himself didn't help. In fact, that's what led to the huge damages, the maximum sum for willful infringement was awarded, $150,000 per title.

Because nothing says "justice" like an arrogant (likely white) judge declaring the maximum damages for the "insult" of not showing up with a high-priced lawyer...he should be getting an award for distributing such material, at least it isn't hurtful toward women like many adult films, eh?

As if this sends some message to avoid pirating this sort of material --- yeah right.

What irks me,is the fact that, the courts, financed by personal taxpayers, are fighting the battles on behalf of companies, where's the 'justice'?...Oh,I forget, this is.......AMERICA.

If a company loses revenue from some other business or individual's activities relating to sales loss,it should ONLY be able to claim back those losses, when they have been established or proven, not a penny,or,in this case, one cent more than the ACTUAL loss.
That business, should also fund it's own case before a court.

Courts in America, are partisan, that's to say that 'business has more rights than people' do there.
