According to a report released on Sunday by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, police have arrested a total of 1,213 people suspected of trafficking in personal information.

The arrested individuals are part of 468 gangs that have been dismantled by police, CRI reports.

Over 20 law enforcement organizations seized more than 700 million pieces of personal information during their investigations into 1,327 cases of cyber fraud.

A large number of computer equipment used to market stolen personal information has been seized during police raids.

A single one of the disrupted criminal rings was found operating across 20 provincial and city regions.

Since 2012, Chinese authorities have launched a total of three national campaigns against such criminal organizations.

The Ministry of Public Security says that it is determined to continue such activities. In the meantime, it alerts the public to be cautious when requested to hand over personal information.
