Even if surrounded by controversy, the new Oliver Stone movie, starring Nicholas Cage and Michael Pena, will help the victims of the American tragedy. The producers announced that ten percent of box-office receipts for the first five days of its running will go directly to four charitable organizations.
Half of the box-office donations will go straight to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, which will build two reflecting pools on the site of the original towers from the money.
The rest of the cashing will be divided equally between other three charities.
The movie opens in 2,000 cinemas in the United States on August 9 and it focuses on the story of two Port Authority police officers who are trapped under the rubble of the collapsed twin towers. 'A true story of survival', Oliver Stone's film has already been previewed by NYC police officers and firefighters.
Besides the WTC Memorial Foundation, the other three charities that will benefit from ticket sales are:
- The Tribute WTC Visitor Center, created by the September 11th Families Associations;
- The New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund;
- Tuesday's Children charity.
