'The Ground Truth: After the Killing Ends', as the documentary's full title is, will be granted a special treatment in the theaters and DVS stores in the United States. The Patricia Foulkrod written and directed film focuses on the lives of war veterans and the way their experience in Iraq has forever changed their perspective on things.
The documentary will open on September 15 in only select theaters nationwide and, eleven days later, it will be released on DVD.
For one to two weeks, 'The Ground Truth' will be played in at least six major cities and, immediately after, it will be screened for larger audiences in homes, churches, hospitals, libraries and other community centers on October 11.
The date was carefully chosen to mark the fourth anniversary of the authorization to use military force in Iraq. But the CEO from Focus Features, James Schamus, said that the main goal for the documentary is to increase home video sales and that is why, in an unprecedented move, it will be released on DVD so early after its theatrical debut.
Schamus hits back at the vociferations coming from movie theater owners, who claimed that the short theater-to-home window will have a negative effect on ticket sales: 'I think people understand this is a very special situation, and that it's not something we'll be doing with our "Brokeback Mountains" or "Constant Gardeners"'.
