In-game footage says a different story altogether

If you want to blow your mind away, just click here and see what is probably the best cinematic trailer ever for a PC RPG. Textures, lighting, effects, you name it, while every hair on Geralt's head moves in a different manner according to the action, but... unfortunately, it's just cinematics you're seeing. For now.

The Witcher is a computer role-playing game in development for the PC platform by CD Projekt. The game is based on the book series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and uses BioWare's Aurora Engine.

Although The Witcher shows off some pretty good RPG gameplay, in-game scenes say otherwise. Take a look. No need to spell it out for you I'm sure, but just in case you think that the trailer above is a good match for the in-game footage, write your opinions in the comments column.

The Witcher revolves around Geralt, a man who becomes a "witcher" (a traveling monster hunter for hire gifted with unnatural powers). The setting is that of a medieval world, implemented with tons of details from that time. The natural light during various phases of the day is realistically altered and the day and night transitions serve to enrich the game's ambience. For example: conditions can change rapidly from a light drizzle to a dark, stormy downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning.

An impressive feature however, gameplay-related this time, is that gamers will sometimes have to go on instinct to get further in the game and succeed. Basically, if you kill the wrong person you may not be getting an important item later on. However, not slaying someone at the right time may result in your death, as that someone will have planned to kill you later on, as the story unfolds. Neat, huh? For this feature alone, it may very well become the RPG of the year.

Remember, The Witcher is currently slated for a 2007 release, for the PC platform.
