Gay or not, the Man of Steel made it big in its first week in the American theaters, although estimates were expecting better sales. In its first week in more than 4,000 cinemas, 'Superman Returns' made almost $84.2 million, topping last year's sensation 'Batman Begins' and re-establishing the Superman franchise.
Although Warner Bros. expected more, after the box-office flop 'Poseidon', estimates show that it will definitely make more than $100 million by the end of the week, on Tuesday. After that, it is supposed that 'Pirates if the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest' will take the lead. Nevertheless, the $200 million budget movie is almost sure to make more than $250 million solely in the United States, which makes the producers at Warner very happy, Wall Street analysts believe.
'Superman Returns' is closely followed by rival 20 Century Fox's 'The Devil Wears Prada', starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway and the third position is now occupied by last week's number one, Adam Sandler's 'Click'.
