After the massive hit that FOX scored with the series 'Prison Break', thus reviving a completely decaying genre, the 'Stealth' director, Rob Cohen will try to bring the topic back to date with a new movie. 'Scared Straight' will delve into life in prison and a prison riot while, at the same time, making full use of character development and drama.
The plot (penned down by Ron Brinkerloff) revolves around a politician's son who is sent to jail, due to a newly launched program that aims at scaring young offenders from living a crime life. Unfortunately for him, a prison riot starts and he is caught right in the middle of it. Together with another teenage friend and an old-time con, the boy tries to fight the violence that erupts and stop the riot.
Asked by 'The Hollywood Reporter' why he chose this theme for his next project, Rob Cohen said: 'After the success of "Prison Break", there is a revival of interest in the genre. It's going to be a genre movie with depth, and the depth will come from the character. It's the fight for the soul of this young kid who is on the verge'.
Cohen then added that he would not set his movie in a traditional prison, but in a more state-of-the-art jail, where the very thing that it's all sophisticated leads to it being weak and destroyable by those inside it.
There is yet no cast announced for 'Scared Straight' and no exact release date announced. Until now, the only thing that has been officially set is that the project will be released by New Line Cinema, some time next year.
