The Reduced Shakespeare Company is trying again to condense time and space, by transforming the 13-hour long saga into a 20 minute comedy. The company is already famous all around the world for telling almost 37 of Shakespeare's plays in less than 97 minutes and for their abridged versions of 'The Complete History of America' and 'The Bible: The Complete Word of God'.
This time, co-creator Adam Long will get the chance to turn his childhood dream into reality, by writing, directing and starring in the new 20-minute version of 'Star Wars'.
'This is my boyhood dream, in the space of 20 minutes I'm going to be Jabba the Hutt, Jar Jar Binks, Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker. Everyone loves "Star Wars", but I love it more than anyone on the planet'.
Lucasfilm and George Lucas have given the green light to the audacious project, which assures fans that it will contain every plot detail and most of the characteristic lines from the saga. The 'Star Wars - Shortened!' will play only once in front of a live audience of 600 invited guests, on August 17, at the Criterion Theater. After that, it will be aired on Sky Movies, during the 'Star Wars' one-week season, set to begin on August 26.
Sophie Turner Laing, managing director for Sky said: '"Star Wars" is universally adored by movie fans and what better way to celebrate the first time that the entire saga has ever appeared on British television than to create a new theatrical performance, packed with everyone's favorite scenes and lines'.
