'Spider-Man 3' opens in May 2007, but a bunch of lucky fans already got a sneak preview of the movie that, judging from their reaction, announces itself as the best of the kind. The producers also had a very pleasant surprise in stock for the crowd of more than 5,000 people.
The 2006 San Diego Comic-Con publicized only the appearance of director Sam Raimi, but somehow it managed to bring the entire cast of actors, who allowed themselves to be talked into discussing more specific details related to the movie.
Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Topher Grace, Thomas Haden Church and Bryce Dallas Howard, together with Raimi, talked about the two new villains Spider-Man has to face (Venom and Sandman) and agreed to present a complete teaser trailer. The footage included even unedited and unfinished scenes but, if it looked that good when everything wasn't over yet, we might easily say that we'll be into a huge surprise next year.
The packed crowd got the chance to meet a darker and edgier Spider-Man, faced with more inward troubles, while the villains just get better and better. It is a more pessimistic and a totally different film from the other two.
On the whole, judging from what was presented at the Comic-Con, if its two predecessors did more than good at the box-office, 'Spider-Man 3' stands a very good chance of becoming the best sold feature film ever in the history of cinematography.
