Ever since the first 'Spider-Man' movie came out, comic fans all over the world have been ecstatic about it. It was then only natural for the studio to make a sequel to it... and then another one. But, according to the man behind the mask, Tobey Maguire, there will be no fourth installment to the series.
When a teaser trailer of 'Spider-Man 3' was presented at Comic-Con, the people in the audience were so thrilled that they gave the cast and the director a standing ovation. It was about that time that Sam Raimi announced the approximate date of release in 2007.
However, nothing can convince the man who gave life to Peter Parker and Spider-Man to take up the superhero costume for a fourth time. This is not usually something that happens with successful series like this one, but Maguire insists that he doesn't want to be forever connected with the onscreen persona.
'"Spider-Man 3" might be a good place to stop - I am not tied contractually to any more Spider-Man
movies. I am not completely closed to the idea of another one if it made sense but I would say the odds were in favor of this being the last one.', the actor said in a recent interview.
And he is not the only member of the cast who wishes to leave the project and wants people to know that there are other parts out there for them, too. Peter Parker's lady, played by Kirsten Dunst, is also considering going into a different direction than action/comic book-inspired films.
After the premiere of her latest movie, 'Marie Antoinette', Dunst said that 'I'm not the type of actress who does movie after movie', allegedly hinting that neither she would appear in a fourth installment. Now, if both Tobey and Kirsten leave, there is only logical conclusion to be reached: 'Spider-Man' stops dead at number three. So, enjoy it while it lasts!
