The Argentinean director Alejandro Agresti's remake of the Asian romantic comedy 'Il Mare' (2000) hit the big screens just recently, getting together again one of the most famous couples from the '90s, Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.
Unfortunately, this time 'Speed' co-stars seem to lack that 'je ne sais quoi' and the chemistry that connected them in 1994. There is absolutely no heat between them, although the love story depicted in 'Lake House' is not just the usual 'boy meets girl', as they manage to find each other through time. More explicitly, the two star-crossed lovers live in different periods of time and communicate via an ordinary mail box.
The remake isn't much inspired either, Alejandro Agresti going for the more obvious cinematographic effects and clichés in order to fill in a story that evidently lacks what it takes to make a smashing hit at the box office.
So, all in all, besides the total absence of a real connection between the main characters, the film fails to be convincing and/or to the audience's liking. So, if you missed the Reeves-Bullock couple, we would strongly suggest not to run the chance of being truly disappointed by going to see 'Lake House'; instead, you could watch 'Speed' again (at least, there is a lot of heat!).
