Ever since the fourth installment of the 'Die Hard' series was officially announced, the fans of the genre have been kept on their toes with important stuff like 'Will Bruce Willis be able to pull it off once again?', 'Are the rumors about him doing a naked scene true?' and 'Who will play the baddie?'. As usual, the producers and the main stars in the movie did their best not to put the rumors at rest but to encourage them even more.
But the bottom line is still that we will have to wait until June 2007 to see what the movie looks like, no matter what people say. To make the waiting less painful for you, the official trailer for 'Live Free or Die Hard' is out. So now you know (more or less precisely) what to expect. But I can assure you there will be fewer surprises than what you might have thought.
Honestly, when I heard that Bruce is back at the gym to get in shape for the new part in the legendary series, my reaction was similar to the one I had when I heard about 'Rocky Balboa' and 'Rambo': yes, these guys must be out of options! I mean, what we have here is a bunch of mature actors (see how I went around the 'old' term?) who are still trying to reap what they sowed ages ago, feeding off the glory of long gone days, in the hope of revitalizing their saggy careers.
Well, color me blind, but look how well 'Rocky Balboa' did this year: not only did Sylvester Stallone NOT get a Razzie for his performance, but he was even praised by the movie critics and the public alike for his endeavor. Maybe, if he's lucky, Bruce will be received in the same manner, despite the fact that the trailer for 'Live Free' is not quite your regular mind-blowing preview.
Don't get me wrong: not for one second did I think it would be anything else than an ass-kicking, car jumping, plane crushing action flick. However, since all this has already been done before (with a lot of success, too), I would have expected to see everything on a much larger scale, with more attention to details. From what the trailer shows us, the movie will differ from the previous ones only in that John McClane is now older and the terrorist he has to fight against is a new guy. I mean, I would have thought that everything would be about the bang and the boom, all shot and edited (and computer-generated) so as to create the impression that you're the witness of some final cataclysm.
Whatever… Maybe this is just a first hand impression, just like it happens to many awful movies that seem great when the trailer is released. Then again, I'm not quite among those that make up the target public for 'Die Hard'. I'm still gonna watch the movie, though, and I advise you do so too. If Mother Nature hasn't given you a good pair of cojones, grow one and go see it! Below is the clip. As always, you are the best judges in this universe and, plus, you have more than plenty of time until June to decide.
