After Isaiah Washington, who plays Dr. Burke in the ABC hit series, got into a fight with Patrick Dempsey, or Dr. McDreamy for the ladies, there was a rumor that said he would be taken off the show for the homophobic remarks he made while in a fit of rage.
Basically, Washington argued with Dempsey over T.R. Knight being late. As the exchange of words soon escalated into a verbal attack from both sides, Washington allegedly referred to Knight by the term 'faggot'. It was said that Dempsey, when hearing the slur, made a sudden move towards Washington and a brief scuffle ensued.
Two days after the incident, which was pretty played down by the producers of 'Grey's Anatomy' in the media, Knight came out of the closet, by making a public statement in 'People' Magazine. 'I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I'd like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there. While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me', his statement in the magazine read.
After that, Washington still failed to apologize for making homophobic remarks towards one of his coworkers. Yesterday, he also talked to 'People' and, for the first time, talked about the incident on the set, admitting that he did, indeed, use the 'faggot' term and apologizing to anyone who was offended by his words.
'I sincerely regret my actions and the unfortunate use of words during the recent incident on-set. Both are beneath my own personal standards… I have nothing but respect for my coworkers… and have apologized personally to everyone involved.', the 43-year-old actor, with a reputation for his hot temper, told the mag.
According both to him and to the producers of 'Grey's Anatomy', things are back to normal again. It is as if it never happened and 'like we've already moved on', the show creator also told 'People'.
