The Mexican director who came into the spotlight with sci-fi box-office hits as 'Hellboy' and 'Blade II', will take his creative genius to the TV screen in an attempt to reach even a much larger audience than before.
Guillermo del Toro has just signed a one-year deal with 20th Century Fox Television for the writing and executive producing of a new drama.
Also, he agreed to direct the pilot episode based on his script. The director said that he plans to introduce fantasy elements into more traditional genres, like that of police drama.
An open and sincere fan of 'Desperate Housewives', 'Lost', 'The Simpsons', '24' and 'Deadwood', del Toro said that he signed the contract because he truly believes that there is much more room in television to develop a character and a good story than there is in the limited running time in cinematography.
'I have felt very clearly that some of the best writing and character development is happening on television', he said about his contract with Fox.
But that doesn't mean that he pushes cinematography aside completely. His latest project, 'Pan's Labyrinth' premiered in May at the Cannes Film Festival and will be released in theaters nationwide on December 29.
