Electronic Arts recently announced the launch of 'Asterix: The Official Mobile Game of the Movie', which will be available across Europe in January 2008. Following an agreement between EA and licensors La Petite Reine and Editions Albert Rene for the exclusive wireless device rights, the launch of the game will coincide with the premiere of Asterix at the Olympic Games, a live action film starring Gerard Depardieu as Obelix, which will be released in over 40 countries throughout the world.

The Asterix series of comics is amongst Europe's most successful ones, selling more than 325 million copies. The comic Asterix at the Olympic Games, has sold over 15 million copies worldwide. This is the third live action Asterix movie, following the success of the first two, which grossed $200 million at the box office worldwide.

The platform adventure game captures the atmosphere of the film and explores the plot as Asterix and Obelix compete in Greece to win the hand of Princess Irina for a young Gaul, Lovestorix. Players start out on the streets of Athens before qualifying for events such as long jump, running, disk, football and the chariot race finale.

"A faithful rendition of the Asterix cartoon style, a variety of fun game-play options and the innovative twist on sporting events means that this casual game appeals on many levels," commented EA Mobile Producer, James Dillon."We're pleased to extend the enjoyment of the film onto mobile and enable players to lead these famous characters to their destinies."

The game offers fans all their favorite characters from the comics, including Panoramix (Getafix), Caesar and Brutus and is ideal for sporting fans and cartoon lovers alike.
