Among the many complaints that were heard in 2004, when the Strause brothers thought of uniting on the big screen two legends of the horror genre, Alien and Predator, was that - unlike the separate series in which these killers appeared - the movie turned out to be lacking 'nastiness'.
Basically, people were disappointed that they did not get to see the monsters display their full force: there was too little blood and violence in the spinoff to make it better than the many Alien and Predator-infested box-office hits.
In response to the many critics, the directors and 20th Century Fox fought back saying that - if that is what fans want - they will get it... and more! The chairman announced that, for 'AvP 2', they will be narrowing the audience in the hope that it will become a more profitable franchise.
'I think the approach this time is going to be very hardcore. Very R rated. We believe that, this pass on "AvP" with these filmmakers [the Strause brothers] is going to be a lot closer to the hardcore experience', the chairman of the movie studio said. He also promised the fans more blood, more violence, more gore and lots of guts splattered all over the place.
Although the plot of the sequel is still unknown, a number of actors have already been attached to it: Shareeka Epps, John Ortiz, Johnny Lewis, Reiko Ayelsworth and Steven Pasquale. The script will be penned down by Shane Salerno and direction will go, as in the previous movie, to Colin and Greg Strause.
'Alien vs Predator 2' has been scheduled for a December 21 2007 release.
